Verb used to indicate the subject belong to the situation described by the object, similar to to be in English. The Chinese verb Shì can also be used to confirm facts; it works as a verb in Chinese, and is usually used together with de (like “shi de”), meaning yes or correct.
动词verb表示陈述的对象属于”是”后面所说的情况,相当于英文be的动词用法。也表示赞同;认为正确;肯定。常与”的”联用,”是的”一起表示”对”。

Shì as to be

I’m a teacher  wǒ shì lǎo shī 我是老师。
He is a student tā shì xué shēng 他是学生。
We are good friends  wǒ men shì hǎo péng yǒu  我们是好朋友。
They are colleagues tā men shì tóng shì 他们是同事。
My parents used to be staff of that company wǒ de fù mǔ céng jīng shì nà gè gōng sī de zhí yuán 我的父母曾经是那个公司的职员。
His eyes are black tā de yǎn jīng shì hēi sè de 它的眼睛是黑色的。
This is my neighbour book’s zhè běn shū shì wǒ de lín jū de  这本书是我的邻居的。
